doTERRA and healthy skin
Pure, high quality essential oils from doTERRA can work wonders on the skin. You may be dealing with oily skin, wrinkles, or dry patches, or other issues associated with aging skin and essential oils are here to help.
We know that we need to learn to listen to our body- but we should also listen to our skin.
When using essential oils, it is important that we remember that different oils are beneficial for different skin issues. And it’s important to know what will work best for your unique skin type.
I love using essential oils as I know all the ingredients are natural and healthy and with all the chemicals added to our products these days it is nice to stay natural.
It’s important that you understand what skin type you have. Supporting your skin type is key to bring out your best and most beautiful skin so make sure you know your type and use the right essential oils and carrier oils for your skin!
BASIC MOISTURISER FORMULA
This is a basic moisturiser that can work wonders on your skin. A basic rule is to use around 10 drops of essential oil per tablespoon of carrier oil.
If I want to make a facial serum, I will usually start with 2 tablespoons of coconut, and I will then add my favourite facial oils (such as 10 drops patchouli, 5 drops frankincense, 5 drops bergamot, and 5 drops ylang-ylang).
We are all different so please mix these up and find the right blend for you- the perfect blend for you might be different than what works for someone else. This is especially important when you might be dealing with more than one skin type (such as aging and sensitive skin). You can mix and match essential oils in your recipe to make sure you have all your bases covered.
I usually keep my facial serum in amber dropper bottles. The amber colour protects the oils from direct light and the dropper makes it easier to use just the right amount

These oils have properties that tend to regulate and normalize oil production:
Orange

Lime
Bergamot

Cypress
For Breakouts and Blemishes
These oils can be added to your moisturiser to calm and prevent breakouts, and can also be applied neat (undiluted) as a spot treatment:
Melaleuca Alternifolia (tea tree)
Geranium
Vetiver
Lavender
Patchouli
For Dry, Chapped Skin:
If your skin tends to be dry and chapped, a deeply moisturising oil like shea butter or cocoa butter is a good base. Argan oil and rose hip oil are also good facial oils for deep moisture.
For Dry Skin
Cedarwood
Geranium
Myrrh
Sandalwood
Palmarosa
Roman or German Chamomile
For Aging Skin
Argan oil and rose hip oil are some of the best oils for aging skin that tends to be prone to wrinkles and sagging. Use them as a carrier oil and then add these essential oils to nourish aging skin:
Tangerine
Ylang-ylang
Patchouli
Cypress
Sandalwood
Lavender
Frankincense
Rose
Palmarosa
Elemi
For Combination Skin:

These are some of the best essential oils for skin that tends to be both dry and oily
Patchouli
Lavender
Bergamot
Orange
For this I would recommend a base of jojoba oil, since it is nourishing for dry skin but still tends to be friendly to oily skin.
For Red Marks and Dark Spots
Some of the best essential oils for skin with red marks or dark spots are:
Lavender
Lemon
Frankincense
This is a great combo for toning and brightening the skin. Simply use 3-5 drops each per tablespoon of carrier oil, and you have the perfect skin-toning moisturiser if you tend to need help with uneven skin tone. Use twice a day or as needed.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE
Citrus essential oils (and some others) may cause photosensitivity. This means if you apply them and expose that skin to the sun within several hours, you may be more susceptible to redness, burning, and irritation. Please avoid sun exposure for at least 12 hours after application. Dilution can help, but it’s always better to err on the safe side. In my experience, bergamot is especially prone to causing reactions in the sun. Photosensitive oils include:
Bergamot
Grapefruit
Lime
Lemon
Orange
Ginger
Angelica
Rue
Cinnamon
German chamomile
